Welcome

Chris in the Okavango

I am an author, freelance travel writer and food and wine enthusiast. Welcome to my website. Please browse around and read some of my work. My most recently published article appears at the bottom of each page of the website.

My travel and food pieces appear frequently in South Africa's Sunday Times - a newspaper with more than 4 million readers, making it significantly bigger than the combined readership of the UK's Sunday Times, Sunday Telegraph, Independent on Sunday and Observer - and I make occasional contributions to other South African publications including Getaway and AA Traveller. I also work with SANParks (South African National Parks) on their Wild magazine and blog regularly on their website.

My first book, Do NOT Take This Road to El-Karama, published in 2008, is still available in good bookshops across Southern Africa. To order a copy on-line click here. For further information click on My Book. Since the publication of my book, I have also become a regular contributor on Jenny Crwys-Williams's Wednesday Book Show on 702 Talk Radio in Johannesburg.

I am also a dedicated hotelier, a tourism and hospitality industry consultant, a keen quiz and cryptic crossword compiler and an amateur historian so there is something for almost everyone here. As well as pieces I have written, you will find details of recent and future travels.

Please feel free to contact me on chrisharvie@telkomsa.net if I may be of assistance (or if you can be of assistance to me). All feedback is welcomed and all emails will receive responses.
